Johanna Kirsch and Katharina Lampert spent about a year looking for people with alternative concepts of living, many of whom they met before deciding on the three main characters. The Wieserhoisl group, Ute and Wim – all of them pursued their own convictions and longings and chose a different life in their own way. Their utopias became the concrete places the directors visited and where they were integrated into the daily lives of the characters, seeking answers to the questions: “What does living according to your aspirations actually look like?” And: “How can a film be made under these conditions?” The result was a very calm film in which static landscape shots decelerate what is shown and establish space for one’s own thoughts alongside narrative passages.meet Ute, Wim and the Wieserhoislers, who have all taken a big step towards living by their own beliefs and desires.

During our visits, we learn what their daily lives outside the norm are like, how utopias become actual places, and why there is no dropping out of society.

Rund ein Jahr suchten Johanna Kirsch und Katharina Lampert nach Menschen mit alternativen Lebenskonzepten, von denen sie viele persönlich trafen, bevor die Entscheidung für die drei Protagonist_innen fiel. Die Wieserhoisler_innen, Ute und Wim – sie alle hatten einen großen Schritt in die Richtung ihrer eigenen Überzeugungen und Sehnsüchte gemacht und sich jeweils auf ihre eigene Weise für ein anderes Leben entschieden. Ihre Utopien wurden zu jenen konkreten Orten, die die Regisseurinnen exemplarisch besuchten und selbst in den Alltag der Protagonist_innen eingebunden Antworten auf die Fragen suchen ließ: „Wie ist es in der Praxis nach seinen Sehnsüchten zu leben?“, und weiter: „Wie kann unter diesen Bedingungen ein Film entstehen?“. Entstanden ist dabei ein sehr ruhiger Film, in dem neben den erzählerischen Passagen statische Landschaftsaufnahmen das Gezeigte entschleunigen und Platz für eigene Gedanken einrichten.
